Well now wait a minute, if the size of an insect’s body is proportionate to the amount of oxygen, so if there’s twice as much oxygen, then insects would be twice as big, but that really…wouldn’t make them giant. I mean there are goliath beetles and shit, but if you have a bug that’s a centimeter long, then it’ll be 2 cm long. OH LORD HAVE MERCY WHAT WILL WE DO? I don’t know, I mean I’m annoyed by bugs as much as the next guy, but I say it’s worth it.

It said proportionate right? Not directly proportional so we can’t assume that twice the oxygen means twice the size. I am pretty sure it just means that if oxygen increases the size of bugs also increases which could potentially mean 4 or 5 times the size.

During the Carboniferous period, the Earth had about 1.6 times the amount of oxygen in the air as it does now.

The largest known land vertebrate in Earth’s history lived during this time.  It was a millipede relative known as Arthropleura, and it grew up to eight-and-a-half feet long.  For comparison, the largest millipede alive today grows up to 15 inches long.

If the Earth’s amount of oxygen doubled right now, millipedes might grow up to ten feet long, or even bigger.

Also this buzzfeed bullshit used a spider every time it said “insects” and the only people who don’t want bigger insects or spiders are assholes who already think they’re gross and disgusting so fuck those guys..

Bigger spiders still wouldn’t be a danger to us. They would have to be at least our size or more to even consider us potential prey.

Probably the only really dangerous things would be ants. If they could grow as big as your finger, a good size colony would probably see you as something delicious to swarm over and pick apart.

So I wrote and animated this tutorial for people working on my short film Bothered, but I figured it would be useful for all animators, particularly beginners. I borrowed some of these concepts from this awesome packet done by Jon Hooper and Michel Gagne, which is also pretty great!
